I had a chance to visit with a DEC Biologist about fishing the northern reaches of NY (Salmon River, Chazy River, Chateaugay River, etc.) and brought up the Schroon. He said he did a study years ago and the river was deemed a sandy waste land. When I asked him to clarify, he said they studied the river above the lake. I asked that the stretch from Starbuckville Dam to Old County Route 11 be evaluated.
