Building local support for Catch & Release

Ms. Zollweg,
I read the Post Star article about the proposed catch & release area on the Mettawee River.
http://www.poststar.com/sports/article_a1f4bdea-c2af-11de-a50a-001cc4c03286.html

I FULLY SUPPORT THE IDEA FOR THE METTAWEE RIVER FISHERY.

I ALSO SUPPORT THE IDEA FOR A SECTION OF THE LOWER SCHROON RIVER.

In my opinion, both the Mettawee & Lower Schroon have not yet realized their potential for harboring a hold-over trophy trout population. Both rivers have the potential do so. The Battenkill and West Branch of the Ausable are fine examples of an Idea (regulation) That Works. If angler initiative starts the process, I would gladly devote a good share of time and attention to such a project.

  1. I too believe the lower Schroon has trophy potential. I had a chance to visit with a DEC Biologist about fishing the northern reaches of NY (Salmon River, Chazy River, Chateaugay River, etc.) and brought up the Schroon. He said he did a study years ago and the river was deemed a sandy waste land. When I asked him to clarify, he said they studied the river above the lake. I asked that the stretch from Starbuckville Dam to Old County Route 11 be evaluated. There's plenty of PFR and I know from my guiding days that there are stretches hold over.

    I am asking again. Please
